Changing the server name

One of the first things you’ll want to do with your new Call of Duty 4 server is customise the actual

server name. The server name appears in-game, in the server lists, and any third party server searching programs or websites.

As an example, this is how we name our COD4 public servers:

  • INX-Gaming.com >> The best game servers | Public #1
  • INX-Gaming.com >> The best game servers | Public #2
  • INX-Gaming.com >> The best game servers | Public #3
  • INX-Gaming.com >> The best game servers | Public #4
  • INX-Gaming.com >> The best game servers | Public #5

You’ll probably want to name yours something like this:

INX-Gaming.com >> Dave’s public deathmatch server

Note above, we’ve included the INX-Gaming branding in. If you have paid for debranding, you don’t have to include that.

How to name your COD 4 game server:

  • Login to MyINX
  • Click on My services
  • This will bring up a list of your game servers (if you have more than one). Click Control panel under the server you want to manage
  • Now, from the right hand menu, select the File editor
  • The file we want to edit is called rankedserver.cfg. Click the edit button next to it.
  • This will open up the main configuration file. There are lot’s of different lines in here. If you scroll down a little you’ll see a line starting set sv_hostname.Then after that you’ll see a default name set.
  • Here you can customise it. To set to the earlier example, you would edit as follows:

set sv_hostname “INX-Gaming.com >> Dave’s public deathmatch server”

  • Note carefully the “. If you leave these out, it will cause problems.
  • Once you have done that, scroll down and save the file. Then restart the server, which you can do from the main screen.
